Developing A Better Understanding Of Pain

Every year, millions of UK citizens deal with pain. Often going unnoticed by the general public, this pain can take on a myriad of forms, ranging from barely noticeable and sporadic to life altering and constant. A result of disease, trauma, lifestyle, dental, training accidents, general accidents, addictions, mental health issues, suicides, and more, pain is very real and will not go away normally without being addressed.

The problem then becomes, how do we address pain in an individual? Lets take a moment to develop a better understanding of pain, how it might affect a person, and what can be done to help mitigate pain in daily life.

The Importance Of The Subjective Experience

understanding-painPain is a unique experience. Every person has a different tolerance to pain that can range from very sensitive to nearly dull. Two different people can experience the exact same pain and report different results. This is due to our subjective experience and pain tolerance. As every person is different and there are countless pays in which to experience pain, dealing with pain and understanding it enough to cure it will require understanding the individual who is suffering. Once we begin on this individual level, we can ascertain what the problem might be and where we should go from there. The solution maybe as simple as heading to your computer to buy codeine of some other painkiller from an online pharmacy. Of course, if you take that route  you must be sure that you are dealing with a licensed organization and that doing so so is legal.  For example, it is legal in the UK and other EU countries, but not in the US.

Physical and Mental Pain

Pain can be a very real and tangible experience that is repeatedly felt. For example, if you were to sprain an ankle or break a bone, then you would be keenly aware of the pain signals being sent to your brain. When there is a clear cause to why the pain is occurring and the cause is physical, then it can be relatively straightforward to fix. Pain pills can be used to provide some level of relief while the underlying problem is addressed. Eventually, all pain will subside allowing the individual to return to his or her normal life.

However, not all pain is physical in cause and nature. For example, those dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, and a range of other emotional and psychological issues can report experiencing pain as a result. This pain can be harder to pin down, with medical treatments usually being to alleviate the symptoms and therapy being designed to address the route cause. Things like addiction, suicide, and depression can all create the sensation of pain.

Pain Management and Control

Managing pain, especially with medication can be a challenge for individuals. This is especially true if the pain is chronic, or at a state where it is worsening over time. We as people do not like to experience pain, and will often do things that may not be in our best interest in order to remove the pain. Addiction to pain killers can be a result of dealing with pain, creating an additional problem as a result.

Pain relief then has to come from careful management, control, and communication between doctor and patient. As addition to pain killers can occur in any instance where the pain killers are given, every British citizen is theoretically at risk for developing an addition.

Managing Your Own Pain

Managing your own pain successfully will require you take time to understand the root cause of the pain. If it is physical in nature then you may need to go see your GP. If it is psychological or you are incapable of placing where the pain is coming from, then a therapist may be your best option. Either way, reaching out and getting help is the best step you can take towards developing a better understanding of pain.

Chronic Pain

Many people suffer from chronic pain due to injuries from sports or motor vehicle accidents, as well as health problems such as migraines, cancer, arthritis, and so much more. With each of these painful issues comes the need for pain relief to help soothe the pain and allow these people to live their lives. Those who suffer from severe pain on a daily basis require pain pills as a permanent treatment for their pain. The best way to ensure you are able to relieve the pain that you are experiencing is to contact your doctor to set up an appointment about your symptoms to find out the cause.

Options in Pain Relief

When you are looking for a pain control solution, you have many options available to you to help control your pain and make it more manageable. The first thing you can try, depending on the cause of the pain, is to apply a cold compress to the sore area in an attempt to temporarily relieve the pain. If your pain is cause by an internal problem, such as a migraine or other issue, then you may want to consider an over the counter pain relief product until you can speak to your doctor. While neither of these options are permanent ways to control your discomfort, they may help long enough for you to talk to your physician and allow them to properly diagnose the issue.

Causes of Chronic Pain

There are many causes of chronic pain as it can come from numerous different sources. One of the biggest causes of chronic pain that has been on the rise are migraines. More and more people every day suffer from debilitating migraines that can cause a great many problems in their lives. Those who suffer from migraines may find that they are unable to function throughout the day and may even end up losing their job due to the inability to make it into work. This particular instance of chronic pain can be treated through antidepressants or pain relief medication depending on the individuals.

Treatment for chronic pain is a step by step process as there is no true cure. First your doctor will prescribe a pain control substance to assist in making you more comfortable. Once the issue of your pain and discomfort has been addressed, the doctor will begin to test to diagnose. In many cases the diagnosis will help to manage the pain you experience more effectively and they may be able to rid you of your pain permanently.

The secret to almost immediate pain relief

Each and every one of us will have to deal with our fair share (and some of us will be forced to contend with much more than our fair share) of pain throughout our lives. Some of that pain is going to be of the mental and emotional varieties, but most will be of the physical nature.

Whether it’s just aches and pains, creaks and groans, just getting older or a significant injury makes little to no difference whatsoever – what’s important is that you understand there are pain control and pain relief protocols out there that you have the opportunity to leverage should you need to.

If you’d like to almost immediately relieve the pain that you are dealing with (or at least give yourself a bit of a rest from the pain), you’ll want to pay attention to the details we are happy to share with you below.

Isolate the areas that the pain is stemming from

One of the most important things you can do to begin moving forward with an appropriate pain management protocol is to isolate the areas that are causing you pain in the first place.

Only by tracking down the source and originator of the pain that you are fighting through on a regular basis will you ever have any hope to manage, mitigate, and completely eliminate the pain that you are dealing with. Without isolating these “hotspots”, you may as well be poking around blindly in the dark hoping to do something – anything – that ends up being beneficial.

Take advantage of RICE protocols

The RICE protocols (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) have been proven to produce serious pain relief and pain control benefits when used appropriately, and you’ll want to make sure that you give these a shot if you are to have any chance of mitigating in managing pain before it takes over.

Don’t be shy about leveraging prescription pain relief or pain control solutions

At the end of the day, there’s little to no reason whatsoever put yourself through more pain, frustration, and aggravation than absolutely necessary – especially if a professional can give you the solutions you need for effective pain relief and pain control.

Speak with a medical professional if you are fighting through symptoms that you cannot control all on your own, and you should be able to quickly move through an appropriate protocol that gets you back to feeling better than brand-new in record time.  You can even buy painkillers online from licensed pharmacies if necessary.  In the UK, you can for example buy codeine, dihydrocodeine and similar strong prescription painkillers online legally at pharmacies like RXExpress.  Although these medications cannot be bought online in the US in the same way, and we note that this site does not supply the US. But if you are in serious pain – perhaps too sick to leave the house – then the option to buy painkillers like codeine online is a fantastic benefit.

Mrs. Dalloway And Dealing With The Pain Of Depression

It has been nearly ninety years since the publication of one of Virginia Woolf’s most well-known and poignant masterpieces, Mrs. Dalloway. Set in the shadowy aftermath of the First World War, the book deals with everything from the pain of isolation and depression to what was then termed “shell shock” and what we today recognize as Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome, or PTSD. Woolf herself suffered from depression which profoundly (and tragically) impacted both her work and life; as such, her work provides a first-hand account of both the pain of depression as well as the various do’s and don’ts when it comes to coping with it.

depressionWhile it should go without saying, it is worth mentioning that depression is a real, recognized medical condition, and there is a tangible difference between real clinical depression and “just feeling down.” As such, if you are friends with someone who is suffering from depression, as well-meaning as you might be, you’re going to want to refrain from telling them to “just cheer up” or “get over it”—you’ll be doing more harm than good, and doing nothing to provide effective pain management or emotional support.

Here, then, are a few symptoms to look out for if you suspect yourself or a friend from suffering from the pain of depression through the lens of Woolf’s masterpiece:

  • Feelings of guilt: One of the most common pains and complaints those with depression face is guilt, which itself commonly manifests in anything from a feeling of worthlessness to helplessness. Various women throughout the novel struggle with the former, while Mrs. Dalloway herself struggles with both. A common response to this is overcompensation. Mrs. Dalloway ties her self-worth to the parties she throws. The activity of planning parties is a response to her feelings of worthlessness. By contrast, Septimus Smith, the soldier suffering from PTSD, likewise suffers from “survivor’s guilt,” and feels helpless, something further exacerbated by the isolation which was common practice for treating depression at the time. However, while giving someone their space can be an effective pain relief measure with regards to depression, it is not advised to simply “isolate” them as is done with Septimus—as in his case, this can lead to those feelings of guilt, despair, helplessness and hopelessness simply feeding back on one another without any mediating, positive forces to combat them. While properly-prescribed anti-depressants can have a positive effect on someone suffering depression, emotional support—rather than isolation—is absolutely crucial.
  • Insomnia or unrest: These symptoms can occur as the result of many things, and so should be considered additional rather than primary symptoms of depression. That said, unrest in particular can point to an anxiousness which may itself stem from a psychological condition.
  • Apathy towards former activities, including sex: Studies have shown that one’s sex drive can become noticeably diminished as a result of depression. While it is not necessarily his sex drive per se that suffers, Septimus’ ability to love his wife dips dramatically as he continues to struggle with the pain of depression.
  • Thoughts of suicide: One of the most famous sequences of Woolf’s work juxtaposes Mrs. Dalloway arguably contemplating suicide and Septimus actually committing it. If you find yourself struggling with thoughts of suicide or feel your pain is too great to bear, call the National Suicide Prevention hotline immediately at 1-800-273-TALK.
  • Persistent headaches and pains: If you have been suffering from persistent headaches and pains which have not subsided, even with treatment, and you find yourself suffering from some of the above conditions, you may want to consider seeing a counselor or psychiatrist to see if depression or another psychological issue is at the heart of the matter.
